Three years after Russia invaded Ukraine, the war still rages on, already claiming over a million casualties. This week, President Trump announced the warring nations would “”immediately”” begin ceasefire negotiations, following calls with Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, Russia continues to demand demilitarization and territorial concessions before agreeing to peace.

Over the past year, debates around the participation of transgender athletes in college sports have intensified across the country. In February, the NCAA banned transgender women from participating in women’s sports following the Trump administration’s executive order.

Recently, San Jose State University’s women’s volleyball team garnered national attention after one of its players was outed as transgender in a lawsuit against the NCAA. The team faced boycotts from opponents who refused to face a transgender player.

Last week, Harvard University resoundingly rejected and condemned the Trump administration’s demands to dismantle its diversity programs, limit student protests, and submit to far-reaching federal audits in exchange for its federal funding. This move, a stark contrast to Columbia’s response last month, prompted the Trump administration to immediately freeze over $2.2 billion in grants to Harvard.

Stanford President Jon Levin and Provost Jenny Martinez have since released a statement in support of Harvard, characterizing its response as “rooted in the American tradition of liberty, a tradition essential to our country’s universities, and worth defending.”
